Our school community came together for our annual Opening Day Convocation! Our faculty and staff had a chance to reconnect, reflect on the work ahead, and get inspired for the year to come.

We introduced our faculty and staff to "North Stars," our district's new way of staying connected to the passions and values that guide the work that we do at SBRSD.

On our first day back to school, two of our staff members, Kevin Wolgemuth and Ed Brammer, noticed a monarch caterpillar in its “J” stage at our community entrance.

I tried to turn the discovery into a metaphor for the first day of school. Here's what I had to say:

“On our first day together, we discovered a monarch hanging in its J-stage. On the threshold between what it was and what it is about to become. It feels like the perfect reminder of what school is all about. None of us (students nor adults) have come here already finished. We come here to grow, to change, to stretch, and to become.”

Thank you to our curious and ever-observant staff for noticing this special visitor and inspiring such a beautiful reflection on what it means to begin another wonderful school year at SBRSD!

Over the summer, our team, which emerged from our district's work with Transcend, came together for professional development experiences to work on creating goals and visions for the program this year.

Together, these efforts are helping us create learning experiences that give students more ownership, encourage collaboration, and reflect the needs of our community.

Mount Everett is a wall-to-wall early college, meaning every student is automatically enrolled in the high school's early college program. Mount Everett partners with the University of Massachusetts Amherst to give students the opportunity to take free college courses, earn college credits, and ​tour college campuses. 

Innovation Pathways offers opportunities for students to explore cutting-edge technology and in-demand fields! The program emphasizes real-world skills through career-focused experiential learning. Participants connect with industry mentors, go on field trips, get set up with internships in their areas of interest, and more!

This year, Innovation Career Pathways will introduce a new Grow With Google program as part of our Information Technology Pathway.  Grow With Google’s AI Professional Certificate program. 

 

This program is promoted by the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative. The course will run as a one-semester course and will include advanced projects using AI, such as mapping optimized bus routes or transcribing documents for the historical society.
