In science, Mrs. Blackwell’s fifth graders created controlled explosions in their study of chemical reactions.

Kindergarten students at UME recently enjoyed a special intergenerational visit, welcoming seniors from the Sheffield Senior Center. This event was held in partnership with Rachel of MAPS (Music Art Puppet Sound) and Mitch and Marjorie of Le Petit Ranch, who brought along their chickens for the children to observe and interact with up close.
Inspired by their feathered visitors, the students worked alongside their senior partners to create a large chicken and design colorful eggs. These creations have been transformed into a cheerful spring mural that now adorns our hallway. The room was filled with lively conversation and collaborative spirit as students shared ideas and discussed the arrival of spring.
This joyful experience—funded by the Better Together Grant—brought smiles to everyone involved and fostered a wonderful sense of community.

NMC Pre-K recently wrapped up a whirlwind unit on weather! 🌪️
Our young meteorologists took to the playground to fly handmade kites and explore the science of lift. Inspired by kinetic artist Lyman Whitaker, the children designed their own wind sculptures and tested them using fans. They also captured the movement of the air through "windy day" watercolor paintings.
We took our learning to the clouds, using "cloud spotters" to identify cirrus, cumulus, stratus, and nimbostratus formations. To wrap it all up, we practiced our math skills with Cloud Estimation, predicting how many cotton balls it would take to fill a cloud. Science and math have never been so fluffy!

Every Monday in March, students participate in activities aimed at reducing "Monday morning stress." Today, these 5th graders spent their session collaborating and cooking with the Mt. Mount Everett Theatre department presents
Almost Maine
In an almost-town that is so far north in Maine that it’s almost Canada, we discover a community that is almost getting through the winter. On a cold, clear night filled with stars, we see nine stories where connections are forged and split, where hearts are bound and broken, and where magic appears along with the northern lights. John Cariani’s beloved Maine masterpiece is on the Mount Everett stage for the first time reminding us all of the power of love and the importance of belief.

By honing their skills with the Adobe Illustrator Pen tool, Mt. Everett’s Digital and Early College Graphic Design students brought themselves to life through custom vector self-portraits.

Our kindergarteners turned into masters of disguise this week! To explore the science of animal survival, students designed paper frogs with custom camouflage patterns meant to blend perfectly into our classroom environment. Once the frogs were "hidden" in plain sight, the class went on a walking tour to test their observational skills. We wrapped up with a great discussion on why certain colors made some frogs nearly invisible while others stood out. It was a fantastic blend of artistic creativity and scientific inquiry.
