Dr. Ricca Welcoming Students at Undermountain Elementary School

Superintendent Ricca’s three-year contract to start July 1, 2026

May 1, 2026 (SHEFFIELD) – On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the Southern Berkshire Regional School District (SBRSD) School Committee approved a three-year contract with Dr. Brian G. Ricca as the Superintendent of Schools for the SBRSD. Dr. Ricca has been the interim superintendent for the 2025-2026 school year.

“We are excited to continue our work with Dr. Ricca and are appreciative of both his patience and the community’s patience throughout this process,” said SBRSD School Committee chair Julie Hannum. “While he joined us as Interim Superintendent, we are proud that his new contract reflects his experience, leadership, and expertise. We look forward to moving ahead together in support of our students, staff, and community.”

Hannum continued: We see Southern Berkshire’s schools continuing to grow under Dr. Ricca’s leadership. His commitment to transparency, collaboration, and student-centered leadership will help guide our schools forward.”

Prior to joining the SBRSD community, Ricca’s 14 years of superintendent experience included leading East Greenwich, Rhode Island; St. Johnsbury, Vermont; and Montpelier, Vermont. Earlier leadership roles include four years as Associate Principal at Rice Memorial High School in Burlington, Vermont, and four years as Director of Community Service at Saint Ignatius College Prep in Chicago, Illinois. Ricca is completing his 30th year in education, having classroom experience with students as young as first graders and up to the graduate level.

“In just one year, I’ve grown to love SBRSD, and there’s a lot to look forward to. There are so many innovative programs – BerkStudios & Agency with our partner Transcend, Innovation Pathways, and Early College, to name a few – that we will continue to expand, grow, and impact our community together,” said Ricca. “But it’s the compassion and ideas from our community, like the No One Eats Alone Day and the Movie Night started by our students, that really get me excited about the next few years.”
