Thank you to the Eagle and Janet Funds : “Living in a Multicultural World” grant, gave our school the great opportunity to take students to visit New York City and experience speaking , reading and listening to Spanish in the real world.
The students attended a theater performance in Spanish with native Spanish speakers who live in New York city; they visited the Statue of Liberty; stopped by Ellis Island and the National Museum of Immigration, and ended the day at an authentic Tapas restaurant where they had the opportunity to try new cuisine.
It is part of the commitment of the foreign language department to show students the practicality of the foreign language they are learning. This wonderful experience was possible with the support of the Eagle and Janet Funds.
The students realize that learning a foreign language is a great tool for their future in order to be more integrated in a multicultural environment.
As part as our commitment of teaching students a foreign language , we also teach them how useful it is to speak it. Spanish is not so foreign in the United States, it is definitely a useful tool.
The AP Spanish class went to New York City for a day! We visited Grand Central Station, walked the streets of New York City, took the Metro, watched a theater performance in Spanish, went to visit the Statue of Liberty, visited Ellis Island and the National Museum of Immigration, and ended our day in a Tapas restaurant.
What a great experience for the students to speak Spanish at all times and to realize how important it is in their lives!

Many thanks to the Clark Art Institute for welcoming our French III students to the museum and allowing us to see their wonderful collection, right here in the Berkshires.
Our docent, Carol, did an amazing job engaging the students in both French and English throughout the museum visit. The focus of this visit, besides speaking and listening to French, was to better understand why Paris was such an important place for artists in the early 1900s and which artists were present in the capital of France at this time. We exchanged conversation with our docent and learned about Impressionism, including artists such as Monet, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec and many others. Carol also explained to us what was going on here in the United States at the same time, allowing the students to understand and compare both countries and cultures.
We would also like to thank the owner of La Patisserie, Jean Yves. On our way up to Williamstown, we stopped at La Patisserie in Great Barrington, where we enjoyed speaking French with Chef Jean Yves as each student ate a croissant. It was the ideal way to begin our morning together!
FALL FIELD TRIP
Our students attended two shows at The Egg - Center for the performing arts in Albany, New York. Latin Rhythms , which is an ensemble, representing talented musicians from many regions. This first show took the students on a journey of music from various Latin-American countries through the exciting, popular, and diverse musical traditions of these countries. The students had the opportunity to learn and listen to different rhythms from Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Peru, Argentina and other important Latin musical traditions.
The other show the students attended was Viva Flamenco. The students learned about the origins of its rhythm and the intensity of flamenco through the use of staccato footwork, palmas, guitar playing, singing and dancing.
Since the New York State museum is near by, we made a short stop before we took the bus back to school and the students got to look around the museum and ride in the carousel which is 150 years old!
