Arts Enrichment Program
The Southern Berkshire Regional School District is grateful for the good fortune to collaborate with the Flying Cloud Institute. Flying Cloud creates opportunities for children in public schools to explore the arts and sciences in ways not usually available to them. Curricular programs serve over one thousand children in four school districts, and activities include classroom artist and scientist residencies, support of environmental projects, development of interdisciplinary curricula, engineering education, and staff development. Extra-curricular offerings serve 120 children including after school programs at SBRSD in the arts and sciences for elementary, middle and high school students.
The year round work in the schools is key to fulfilling the Institute's mission to provide children with experiences that inspire creative thinking, problem solving, and innovation in the arts and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).
This is accomplished by improving classroom instruction through staff development and curriculum design, bringing role models from a variety of disciplines into the classrooms to work with students, and providing experiences beyond what public schools usually offer. The after school programs give students opportunities to work with specialists in a small group setting to explore their interests more fully. Now over half of the Institute's resources are devoted to important partnerships with local schools.
