Monterey School

Located on the far eastern end of the District, the Monterey School houses a combined kindergarten/first grade classroom. The core curriculum is based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Art, music and physical education are taught by specialist teachers who travel to Monterey each week.

Class sizes vary widely from year to year, depending upon the number of students in the town, plus students who wish to enter the program through the school choice option. In recent years, the class size has been as high as 17 and as low as 5. There is a full-time paraprofessional assigned to the class, which gives the teacher the flexibility to group and regroup students throughout the school day, providing ample personal attention for each and every child.

Most of the students who attend the Monterey School will go to Undermountain Elementary and/or New Marlborough Central and then on to Mount Everett.
