CROSS-COUNTRY TRACK

The Mount Everett Cross-Country Team emphasizes both the competitive nature of the sport, and the ability to be a life-long runner. Cross-country is a team sport, with an emphasis on the individual runner's performance. The team competes in 7-10 races a season, including the end-of-season Berkshire Invitational. Students in grades 7-12 are eligible to participate in cross-country.

The team won the Southern Berkshire Championship in 1979 and 1985, and the girls' team was Berkshire County Southern Division champions in 2005, 2006, and 2007. Amanda Smith has qualified for the Massachusetts State Championships for the last two years, while Fiona Kane has qualified for the last three. Recent graduate, Dan Barry, is currently a member of the UMASS-Amherst cross country team.

The team is led by head coach Chuck Higgins ('64), who is in his sixth year as coach. For two years prior to that Coach Higgins assisted in the program.
