BOYS' BASKETBALL
Guided by the four core values that drive the athletic program, the Mount Everett Boys Basketball program offers a 20 game schedule for both the varsity and junior varsity teams, including 2-3 holiday tournaments for both junior varsity and varsity. In the past nine years, the team has qualified for the Western Massachusetts post-season tournament four times, in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004.
The coaching staff consists of head varsity coach Josh King ('00, Mount Everett varsity basketball player 1998-2000) and JV coach Chris Conry (3 year starter at his high school). Coach King has just completed his first year at the helm of the boys' varsity program, while Coach Conry is in his second year of coaching.
During the basketball season, the current players participate in our youth program, help coach, assist in drills, and referee the K-2 boys in-house program.
We have had two players score over 1,000 points in their careers: Matt Rote ('04) scored 1,141 points, and Jordan Rote ('08) scored 1,157 points.
Notable alumni who went on to play in college in the last 10 years include Josh Barry ('04, for Worcester State) and Jordan Rote ('08, for Springfield College).
GIRLS' BASKETBALL
The Mount Everett Girls' Basketball Team takes pride in representing the school. The coaching staff has a twofold philosophy: while teaching and stressing the fundamentals of the game of basketball, we incorporate in our teachings the game of life, and how being part of a team relates to life after high school.
The girls' team currently plays an independent schedule consisting of 20 games. Included in our schedule have been various invitational tournaments. In these tournaments, the team has finished as runner-up in the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament in Springfield in each of the two years it participated, as well as being the four-time champions of the Franklin Tech Holiday Tournament. The team finished 8-12 in each of the last three years, with its best year being 2004/2005 season when they finished the regular season at 12-8 (13-9) overall and earned a berth in the Western Massachusetts Division III tournament for the first time in several years. That team made it to the quarterfinals, only to lose to the eventual Division III Western Massachusetts & State Champion.
The coaching staff consists of head varsity coach Scott Rote ('79, varsity team member 1978-1979), JV coach Fred Finkle and assistant coach Sarah Pottle ('96, varsity 1994-1996). Coaches Rote and Finkle are both in their eighth year as coaches of the girls' basketball teams. Coach Rote had been involved in coaching both boys & girls youth basketball at Mt. Everett from 1980 to 2000 when he took over the girls high school team. Coach Finkle was a long-time coach of the Golden Knights girls youth basketball teams.
Notable alumni that went on to play in college in the last 20 years include Sarah Pottle, Heather Funk, Lynn Bennett, Jen Bennett, Claire Mielke, Tricia Brown, Sue Carpenter, Laurie Kinna.
