Performing Arts
The SBRSD Theater Arts Program proudly serves the community, educating elementary, middle and high school students. Three in-house musical productions are offered each year (one each at the elementary, middle, and high school level).
Mt. Everett students are also afforded the opportunity to take part in the annual Fall Festival of Shakespeare Program through Shakespeare & Company's residency at the school. The Drama Department emphasizes the students' development in all aspects of theatre: understanding technical vocabulary; familiarity with the history of drama when appropriate to a production (i.e., Roger's and Hammerstein's South Pacific); and exploration of personal creativity and imagination through improvisation, ensemble building, and scene development.
Working on a production not only helps the students develop their craft of acting but also allows them to become knowledgeable in concepts of scene and prop design, set construction and lighting, rigging operation, and stage management. Through these productions, students develop their emotional and sensory awareness and better appreciate the commitment and discipline necessary for the expression of this art form.
