The District is equally proud of the opportunities it provides for its students to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities. With over a dozen athletic teams and opportunities for inter-district athletic participation, the District offers students ample choices. The athletic department takes pride in developing student athletes who value hard work, fair play, commitment, and a winning attitude. A smaller size hasn’t limited our competitiveness; it has strengthened it. In just the past four years, the Eagle baseball and softball teams have won the Western Mass Division Championship (baseball 2012 state finalists) and the Lady Eagles Basketball team is the 2016 Western Mass Division Finalist. Our athletes consistently earn Western Massachusetts Sportsmanship Awards. Off the field, many of our students participate in the Robotics Program. The team has won the Massachusetts FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Championship in 2013, 2014, and 2015. In 2015, our Robotics team, the Higgs Bots, traveled to the Robotics World Championships in St. Louis, and was ranked in the top 30 robotics teams in the world. There are additional opportunities for students to participate in the Makerspace program that is operated in a lab complete with 3-D printers and other innovative equipment on the Sheffield campus. In intellectual and athletic pursuits, our District students regularly gather with mentors and coaches to create, invent, learn and build.
