Welcome to the Berkshires! It is my great pleasure and honor to be serving as Superintendent of the Southern Berkshire Regional School District. The district is comprised of five schools in five more or less contiguous and quintessentially New England towns, that came together over half a century ago to be able to provide a greater variety of educational services together than any one of them could alone. This commitment to top-quality education continues to be the hallmark of the southern district.
I am reminded on a regular basis what a very good school district Southern Berkshire is. Not long ago a group of our junior high school foreign language students entered a regional poetry contest against high school students, and came away with first and third place awards. And over the April break, a group of our high school band and chorus students traveled to Atlanta, returning with both gold and silver awards against national competition.
I don't have to remind our readers what a wonderful group of young people we have the enormous good fortune to be educating here. They are kind, friendly, and thoughtful of others, and they are great seekers of knowledge. Fortunately, we have the teaching and support staff in place to meet the shifting and ever-increasing demands of providing cutting-edge educational services to our students in pace with a new century.
